resources "Hello, I'm the new Learning Manager...now what?"

The story used to be..."because you are my best welder (hypothetically here) now I am going to make you the new welding supervisor." Ever hear of that one? Not to be outdone, you can replace the more easily identifiable skilled position of welder with HR/Learning Manager and what do you have? Someone in charge of the training function who may not be fully prepared.

Expectedly, however, the results are somewhat similar-not too good. Through this portal let's explore the tips and resources available to you, the new HR/Learning Manger, as you navigate the new, turbulent waters of the training function.

As this section is being developed, you are encouraged to share information that you have that may help others on their journey as new HR/Learning Managers.

The areas that are low hanging fruit and under development are the following:

  • How can I hire better? (Link to behavioral interviewing)
  • How do I conduct a task analysis?
  • What are competency models and how can I incorporate them?
  • What assesments are available to me and how can I use them?
  • What is a learning managment system (LMS) and why do I need one?
  • How do I lower the overhead costs of my website?
